Mitchel Edwin Jones
Mitchel Edwin Jones, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in October of 2023, at the age of 75. He was born on January 14, 1948, in Ionia, Michigan, and spent a life dedicated to family, community, and the great outdoors.
Mitch was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Susan Ruth (Spiewak) Jones. Together, they shared a lifetime of joys, challenges, and commitment. Mitchel is survived by his brother; James Jones of Ionia, Michigan, and his two sons, Tristan Jones, along with his spouse Anu Martikainen and their daughters Verna, Inka, and Sylvia of Malmberget, Sweden; and Aaron Jones, with his spouse Katie Zapoluch, and son Felix of Mount Pleasant, MI.
A man of diverse interests, Mitchel found great joy in rustic camping, outdoor cooking, and fostering a love for the outdoors through his involvement with the Boy Scouts. After his own youth membership, he served as Scoutmaster for Standish Troop #127, where he impacted the lives of many young men. His commitment extended to the Order of the Arrow, where he held the prestigious Vigil honor. Outside of the scouting world, Mitch was an active contributor to his son’s young lives; being a proud supporter of the Pinconning Area Band Boosters, and contributing his skills as a prop maker for the Pinconning High School Drama Club.
An engineer at heart, he was a real-life MacGyver, renowned for his knack for gadgetry and problem-solving. He was always ready to lend a hand, typically watching quietly from the side until he stepped in with an ingenious and simple solution. His intelligent and dry sense of humor added a clever touch to his interactions, and he had a remarkable ability to listen; making others feel heard and valued.
A memorial to celebrate Mitch’s life will be held at
1:00 pm on Saturday, March 30th, 2024, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan; 319 S. University Ave., Mt. Pleasant, MI. Friends, family, and those touched by his warmth and generosity are invited to join in commemorating a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Scouting or a charity of your choice in Mitch’s honor. His legacy of kindness, resilience, and love will be forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
