Rosalia “Rose” Belcher

Rosalia “Rose” Belcher, age 90, passed away on July 15, 2021. She was born January 2, 1931, to Edward and Catherine (Gerhardt) Haranda. Rose was a graduate of Pinconning High School. She married William Kosick on July 22, 1950, and he predeceased her on August 11, 1982. She married Eugene Belcher on January 7, 1984; he predeceased her August 21,1992. Rose was an extremely hard worker. She worked at H & H Bakery, Schultz Pharmacy in Pinconning, Greenbriar Nursing home in Sterling, Howards Pharmacy in Standish, and then Rite Aid in Standish until she was 83 years old (2014). Rose loved polka music and polka dancing. She even played the accordion in her younger years. She would talk at length about how much fun the polka dances were at the Silver Derby and Valentine’s pubs. Gardening was another of Rose’s hobbies. Her large yard was filled with flowers and landscaping, even participating in a Garden Walk when she was 84 years old. Some people called her “the flower lady” on Whitefeather Road. Rose also was a great cook and cake decorator. She would prepare amazing meals for holiday gatherings, staying up all hours of the night to get ready. Sometimes we forgot the coleslaw or the jello in the fridge because of the overabundance of food. She had a heart of generosity and service for everyone she met. Rose is survived by her 2 daughters, Nancy (Dale) DeHate and Shelly Kosick; Grandchildren, Amy (Bill) Martin, Evan (Mandy) DeHate, and Mark (Molly) DeHate; Great Grandchild, Luca DeHate; Sister, Marian (Norman) Charters; brother, Joseph Haranda; sister-in-law, Pauline Haranda, and many nieces & nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, her brothers, George, James, and Thomas Haranda, and her sister Cecelia Hewitt, and special friends Floyd Jeske and Henry Wright. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 11 am at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Michael’s Church, with Rev. Fr. Kevin Maksym presiding with inurnment to follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Eden Fields Memory Care in Standish and Careline Hospice for their tremendous help in caring for Rose during her last 4 months. She was an amazing lady who lived independently into her 90th year.
