Carmelita A. Whyte
It is with great sadness that the family of Carmelita A. Whyte announces her passing after a brief illness on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the age of 91 years. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Carm resided for the last five years at Eden Fields Assisted Living, in Standish, MI. She was born in Bay City on February 27, 1930, to Harry G. and Margarita C. Janke. On January 31, 1953, Carm married the love of her life Joseph B. Whyte, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bay City. You often found Carm gardening in her yard, reading mystery novels, making tomato jam, baking pies or maintaining her unlimited supply of chocolate chip cookies. She loved to play cards and dominoes, bowl, needlepoint, and knit, but most of all she enjoyed every moment spent with her family. Carm was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Church and St Anne’s Alter Society.
She is survived by her children; Ellen Laur, Mike (Connie) Whyte, Barbie (Steve) Sanak, Jim (Terri) Whyte and Annie Whyte, sister-in-law Delphine Whyte. She has eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one more to come this August. She has numerous nieces and nephews and an extended network of close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry G. and Margarita C. Janke, her husband of 60 years Joseph B. Whyte, her daughter Carol Whyte, her son-in-law Dick Laur and great grandson Anderson Sanak, as well as siblings, John, Louie and Esther, and Dick and Melissa Janke.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, May 24, 2021 from Holy Trinity Catholic Church-St. Michael’s Pinconning, with Fr. Kevin Maksym presiding, with a private family burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery. he family wishes, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in Carm’s memory to St. Michael’s School Classroom Library. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Eden Field’s Assisted Living and their amazing, loving staff, Dr. Tazeen Ahmed, MD and staff, and InTelicare Hospice and their staff, Andrea, Jenna, and Crystal for their love and compassionate care of Carm, as well as the special friends she made along the way at Eden Fields during her stay.
