Dolores (Dolly) L. Chomas
Dolores Loretta “Dolly” Chomas, of Bentley, MI., a beacon of love and strength, passed away peacefully of natural causes on August 11, 2024, at Standish Long Term Care. Born on September 7, 1934, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Albert and Virginia (Sporman) Kukla, Dolly’s life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family, faith, and community. On October 25, 1952, Dolly married the love of her life, Pete Chomas, at St. Stans Catholic Church. Together they embarked on a journey of love and partnership that lasted 38 years until Pete’s passing. Their union was blessed with a loving family that grew on their cherished family farm. Dolly is survived by her children, David (Becky), Daniel (Anne), Pete Jr. (Sandy), Anthony, and Andrew (Kathy) Chomas. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Mary (Chad) Hillman, Helena (Brian) McDonald, Brian (Erin) Chomas, Danny (Katie) Chomas, Stacy (Michael) Bower, Michael (Kate) Chomas, and Grace and Rachel Chomas, as well as 11 great-grandchildren who will carry forward her teachings and love. Special friend Tina who helped care for Dolly as well as just being a great friend keeping Dolly’s afternoons eventful as well as numerous neighbors and friends that stopped over for a visit. Dolly’s siblings, Thomas (Eileen) Kukla, Theresa Parker, and Joe (Joann) Kukla, will hold her memory dear. She was predeceased by her husband Pete, son Paul Chomas, daughter-in-law Denise Chomas, father and mother in law Anthony & Mary Chomas, sister Gerry (Vincent) Adamski, sister Tina (Albert) Bosley, and brother-in-law Tom Parker. Raising her family of six on the family farm was one of Dolly’s greatest accomplishments. She dedicated her life to nurturing her children, instilling in them values, morals, and the fear of God. A lifetime member of St. Mary’s Nine Mile Catholic Church until its closing, Dolly then moved her faith to Holy Trinity. Her commitment to her church was evident as she was a member of the Holy Rosary Society, taught CCD from 1976 to 1988, and served as a coordinator for many years. Dolly’s selflessness shone brightly as she volunteered for bake sales, cooked for those in need, and provided care and comfort to many. In the community, Dolly was a familiar and beloved figure. She was a member of the Estey Moose, where she waitressed and offered her help wherever it was needed. Her home was a welcoming haven; her door was always open to anyone in need, whether for a meal, or a cup of coffee which never ran out at Dolly’s house, or a listening ear. Dolly’s generosity of spirit fostered countless friendships that lasted a lifetime. Dolly and Pete shared a passion for travel, exploring new places together until Pete could no longer join. Undeterred, Dolly continued to travel with her sisters, brother-in-law and her neighbor, Marie Pashak, embracing new experiences with the same zest for life she applied to everything she did. She was very proud of her flower gardens keeping every weed out. In the summer you would always see Dolly cutting the grass with her Kubota even in her later years, this was her job that she loved to do. Deer camp was another time of year that she enjoyed, she would stop over bring food and cards to visit with the boys and, sharing laughs and creating memories. Described by those who knew her as wise, selfless, and courageous, Dolly’s impact on the world around her was profound. She led by example, showing that a life well-lived is one filled with kindness, service, and unwavering faith. Her wisdom was a guiding light for her family, and her selfless nature ensured that she put others before herself. Dolly faced life’s challenges with courage, inspiring those around her to do the same. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 16, 2024, at 11 am from Holy Trinity Parish with Rev. Fr. Matthew Federico presiding with burial in St. Mary’s Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family will greet friends on Thursday, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. On Friday, Dolly will lie in state at the church from 10 am until time of mass. In lieu of flowers those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donating for TV Mass or to the families wishes so they may donate in Dolly’s honor.
