Dorothy M. Roper
Dorothy M. Roper, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on her 103rd birthday, Tuesday, January 11, 2022. She was born January 11, 1919, in Bad Axe, Michigan to the late William & Emma Hintz. She married Walton Roper in 1939, residing most of her life on her farm near Estey.
Dorothy was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church and spent many hours in fellowship there, she especially enjoyed her time spent with the quilting group helping to make many beautiful quilts. Family was very important to her and she loved sitting under the big maple tree in the back yard visiting and watching the deer and turkeys in the field, but what she enjoyed most was fixing Sunday dinners for her family and then beating them in a hot game of dice. She showed no mercy while playing against her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Sharon Christie, sons James, Oliver (Marleen), Robert (Bev), and John (LuAnn), daughter-in-law Marge, 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Walt, sons Tom and Alfred, daughters-in-law Sandy and Susan and 3 grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
Dorothy spent her final 6 years as a resident of the Bay County Medical Care Facility and the family would like to express their appreciation to the staff for their exceptional loving care and kindness they extended to Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 12 pm at Hope Lutheran Church, with Pastor Reed Schroer and Pastor Roger Bauer presiding with burial in Bentley Township Cemetery. Family will be present at Church from 10 am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation in Dorothy’s honor to the Hope Lutheran Church, 4758 Church Rd, Rhodes, Michigan 48652.
