Norman “Norm” E. LaPorte

Norman Ernest LaPorte, age 91, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Huron Woods Nursing Center. Norm was born on July 17, 1933, to Ernest J. and Valetha M. (Chanting) LaPorte. Norm married the former Roberta “Toots” Zawadil on May 26, 1962, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Linwood Michigan.

Norm was a graduate of Pinconning High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1960 from Michigan State University. He retired as Pinconning City Manager and from The Pinconning Journal. Norm was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, boating, playing cards, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and reading Western novels. He also loved watching his alma mater play football and spending winters in Florida with his wife, Toots.

Norm is survived by his sisters, Darlene Burr and Lenore Jean Carstens; three nephews, Keith LaPorte; Jeff and Troy McCormick; four nieces, Tracy Burr; Rebecca Burr-Wells; Cheryl Grimball; Michelle LaPorte; two special nieces, Deanne (David) Rytlewski and Beth (Jim) Stark; two special “grandchildren” Sidney and Jake Hamilton.

Norm also leaves behind the many friends he and Toots made during their lifetime, and the Long Lake neighbors they held dear.

He is predeceased by his parents; wife “Toots” January 21, 2021; brothers Paul R. LaPorte November 24, 2022, and Jonathan D. LaPorte September 11, 2024; nephews, Ricky LaPorte; Darcy LaPorte; Tyler McCormick; niece, Cynthia Whittkopp; brothers-in-law Edmund Burr; Jack Carstens; Willard Zawadil; sisters-in-law Delores LaPorte; Barbara Zawadil; Barbara Williams.

Norm’s family would like to thank the Staff at Huron Woods Nursing Center for the wonderful care Norm received while he resided there. We would also like to thank McLaren Hospice and Palliative Care – Bay Region.

Funeral Mass was held for Norm on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 10 am from Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Pinconning with Rev. Fr. Patrick O’Connor presiding with burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Family greeted friends and family at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home-PINCONNING CHAPEL on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Pinconning Area Emergency Food Pantry.
