Sara Frances (Gerzeski) Schwerin

It is with sad hearts that our Mom has passed away the morning of July 22, 2023, at Bayfield Assisted Living. But we rejoice that she has entered into eternal life and now is with the angels and saints praising God in heaven.

Sara was born to the late Victor and Inez (Carmen) Gerzeski. She resided in the Pinconning area and went to Pinconning High School where she became best friends with Mary Schwerin. She would spend weekends with Mary and as a result met her future husband, Harold (Red) Schwerin. They were married on June 27, 1953, at Hope Lutheran Church in Rhodes, MI. Sadly Harold passed away on April 8, 1982.

Sara was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, active in Ladies Aid, Luther League and Church Council. She retired from the Pinconning School District where she was a teacher’s aide, helping elementary students with their reading and math. She enjoyed camping, bowling, tending her flowers, and traveling. She was a strong supporter of her “girls” and deeply loved her family.

Sara is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Randy) O’Laughlin, Kaye (Pete) Zurek. Grandsons, Sean (Ashley) O’Laughlin, Brandon (Storey) O’Laughlin. Great grandchildren, Silas, Kai, and Matthew. Sister-in-laws Beverly Gerzeski and Jean Schwerin. In addition to her husband and parents, Sara was preceded by her brothers Steve, David, James, Jerry; several brother-in laws and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Corso Care Hospice, and all the staff of Bayfield Assisted Living over the past 9 ½ years. They were not only caregivers but family and friends. The care, compassion, and love they showed Mom was outstanding. We will be forever grateful and hold them in our hearts with much love.

Funeral service was on Wednesday July 26, 2023 at Noon at Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Bauer presiding with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was on Tuesday at Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home in Pinconning from 3pm till 8pm. On Wednesday also from 11am till time of service at church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Lutheran Church or a charity of choice.
