Steve Matijega

Steve age 91, loving father, brother, and grandfather passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022, at the Carriage House. He was born on March 15, 1931, in Mt. Forest Township to the late Harry & Helen (Sulkowi) Matijega. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married the love of his life Sophie on April 23, 1960, at All Saints Church in Flint, Michigan. She predeceased him on August 28, 2011. He retired from Buick Motor Division. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors most of all he will be remembered for taking the best care of his yard, he also enjoyed farming and spending time with family. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Michalski; grandchildren Donald Michalski, Jeremy (Lisa) Michalski, Kristi (Matt) Gibson, Brandon and Lauren Hines; five great-grandchildren Sara, Jordan, Megan, Grayson and Mia; and a sister, Violet Putt. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen (Daniel) Hines, and 14 siblings.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11 am from the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Matt Federico presiding with burial in St. Mary’s Mt. Calvary Cemetery with full military funeral honors. Friends may visit at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home on Friday, from 3 to 8 pm. On Saturday, friends may visit at the church from 10 am until time of mass.
