Thomas “Tom” Peters

Thomas “Tom” Peters passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024, at the age of 81. He was born on March 6, 1943, in Detroit, MI to Willam and Ethel (Henning) Peters, and was a proud resident of Crump, Michigan. His job in the produce department at Kmart brought Tom to mid-Michigan where he eventually met his loving wife, Jan, of 49 years, and grew his family, and businesses. Many will know Tom from his years of owning and operating Tom’s Farm Market and Tom’s Tax Service in Pinconning, MI; the only place you could pick up your completed tax return while buying your lettuce and tomatoes. He was very passionate about his meticulous displays of fruits and vegetables and loved having the opportunity to talk with people all day long. After feeling outrage for the price “the other guys” charged to prepare taxes, Tom enrolled in tax courses and added tax preparation services to his business offerings. Soon, the tax office became his focus and yet another opportunity to talk with people all day long. While he may have grown up in Detroit, Tom loved his life on the farm in Crump. He was an avid gardener and his plot of tomatoes, corn, onions, potatoes (and so much more) somehow seemed to get bigger every year. If you stopped by to say hello, you were sure to go home with some fresh tomatoes or (if you were lucky) a jar of his homemade hot sauce.

Tom loved to talk and was a friend to everyone he met. Whether it was about climbing out his childhood window using a bed sheet, racing his beloved MG, or how to grow the perfect tomato, Tom always had a story to share or a life lesson to give.

Tom was extremely proud and loved to brag about his family. He is survived by his wife, Jan; his children, Trisha (Todd) Confer, Brian (Kari) Peters, Danielle (Dan) Luptowski, Lisa (Chris) Bolgar, Andrea (Garrett) Hungerford; his grandchildren, Brysa, Mikayla, Avery, Megan, Rachel, Samantha, Tyler, Ellie, Piper, Esme, and Adalyn; his sister Carol (Bob) Graf, brother John (Donna) Peters, and sister-in-law Gwen Peters. He was also an honorary Papa to Ben. Several sisters-in-laws and a brother-in-law; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased in death by his brother William Peters and parents William and Ethel Peters.

Tom will be honored with a funeral service scheduled on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 11:00 am from the Pinconning Wesleyan Church with Pastor’s Dave and Dwight Kingsbury presiding with burial in Garfield Township Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 10 am until time of services. On Thursday, friends may visit at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home from 2:00 till 8:00 pm.
