Virginia Myrtle Meyer

Virginia Myrtle Meyer of Northville, MI, age 96 passed away September 26, 2021 peacefully in her sleep. She was the first child born to William E. & Dorthy A. (Jacobi) Powell. She was born on December 25, 1924 on the family dairy farm of her Paternal Grandparents Frederich Michael & Wilhelmina (Berg, Barry) Powell. She was baptized in 1925 and also confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pinconning. Virginia met the love of her life in that same church, Walter Frank Meyer, and they were married there on June 1, 1945. While a student at Pinconning High School, Virginia worked part time at the DeFoe Ship Yard in Bay City. She and Walter moved to Detroit, and later Dearborn where she lived happily for the next 60 years. Their union was blessed with three sons, Roy Walter, Todd Allen and Mark Troy. The family regularly attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dearborn for over 60 years.
Virginia was an avid gardener, who kept beautiful flowers and roses. She was an amazing cook, and loved to entertain family and friends. The family traveled often visiting 49 States and Europe. She was active with charitable groups at Emmanuel and was a Den Mother for her boys in Cub Scouts.
In later years she was diagnosed and survived Breast Cancer, and had late-stage Dementia. She resided in her Dearborn home until age 93, when she moved to Memory Care at Pomeroy Living in Northville.
She is survived by her son Todd Meyer of San Rafael, California and his fiancée Cara Gulati, her son Mark Meyer and his wife Cynthia (Shannon) of Northville, Michigan, Niece Pamela (Rodney) Mueller, Nephews Donald (Mary) Reinhart, Keith Reinhart, Scott (Linda) Krystyniak, Jay (Lisa) Krystyniak, and several Grand Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Dorthy Powell, her sister and brother-in-law Leona and Bernard Reinhart, Ethel and Walter Krystyniak, her brother and sister-in-law Herbert and Mary (Spurling) Powell, two infant sisters Arleen Powell and Christina Amelia Powell, Mother and Father-in-law Edith (Raeck) and Charles Frank Meyer, her husband Walter Frank Meyer, and her son Roy Walter Meyer. Funeral services were held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dearborn on October 4, after which she was interred in the Mausoleum at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia, beside her beloved husband Walter.
